Who is Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris in short Kamala Harris was born in Oakland California on October 20, 1964. She was the 49 Vice President of the United States. During the administration of President Joe Biden she was also the first lady, African American to hold this post. She also served in the United state senate in 2017 to 2021 and attorney general of California in 2011- 2017.
Her father “Donald Harris” was basically Jamaican and served as a professor at Stanford University. Kamala’s mother “Shyamala Gopalan Harris” was the daughter of an Indian diplomat and was a cancer researcher. Her Younger sister named “Maya Harris” was an advocate by passion.
Harris did his bachelor’s degree in political science and economics in 1986 at Howard University. After compilation of bachelor degree Harris got admission and did law degree in 1989 from Hastings College.
After compilation of education Harris start working as deputy attorney from 1990 to 1998 in Oakland where she was known for his toughness. As a prosecute she handled gang violence, drug trafficking and sexual abuse cases.
Harris As Attorney General
In 2004 Kamala Harris became district attorney. And in 2010 she was shortlisted in the list of elected attorney general of California. She won by less than 1 percent margin and became the first female also the first African American for this post. In the following year after taking charge of office she rejected the political pressure from the administration of President Barack Obama (to settle a nationwide law against mortgage lenders for unfair practices) and demonstrated political independence.
In 2008 she refused the Proposition 8 which banned same-sex marriage in the state. Kamala Harris wrote a book named “Smart on Crime” with the help of co writer Joan OC in 2009. This book was selected as a model for dealing with criminal problems.
Kamala Harris delivered a memorable speech at Democratic National Convention in 2012. This speech raised her national profile. After two years she got married to attorney Douglas Emhoff”. She was now recruited to run the US Senate seat held by Barbara Boxer. In early 2015 Harris was invited to immigration and criminal justice reforms, increases to minimum wage and protection of women rights. In January 2017 Harris became the first indian American and the second black woman in the senate. She started serving on a selected committee and judiciary committee and also did some other assignments in parallel.
In June 2016 she got attention for her particular questions asked to US Attorney General Jeff Sessions. Jeff Sessions was testifying in front of the intelligence committee on Russian interference presidential elections.
Harris As Vice President
In the Presidential nomination 2020 she was leading contenders and got particular attention in a primary debate. With fellow candidate Joe Biden she had a contentious exchange over opposition for school bussing in 1970 to 1980. In the start Harris support was increased but from September 2019 She was in serious trouble. And after that she dropped out from this race.
Now She Focused on maintaining a high profile and becoming a leading advocate for social justice. A African American named Gerge Floyd died in police custody in May 2020 and Harris was criticized for failing to investigate charges of police misconduct. In August Biden chose Harris and she became the first black woman to appear on a major party national ticket. She became the first black woman by November as vice president of the United states. Including Trump many other republicans challenged this election and claimed it fraud. Due to non evidence these cases were dismissed.
On January 6, 2021 Trump supporters stormed the capital. After some hours the building was secured and Biden and Harris were certified as the winner. And it was January 18 2021 she officially resigned from the senate, two days later Harris was signed as vice president.
